Microarrays is an item that lets scientists look at thousands of genes all on on tray, or platform. Using combinations of genomics, computer science, nanotechnology, present day scientist thrive to improve the way it works. One can use microarrays to find patterns or changes in genes to know more about normal and abnormal cells. A "gene chip" needs to be created, in the lab packet it is compared to a glass slide, except with genes, and copies of a important part of that certain genetic sequence. Then you use the "chip" to find complementary DNA, made from isolated noncancerous mRNA strands. Using dyes to color both the cancerous and noncancerous to distinguish for future information, and then is put with the chip. Using a computer to show which genes were cancerous and noncanerous in the tissue also. Using microarrays lets us identify these dangerous genes earlier, but prior to the present technologies, scientists were unable to analyze such a large amount of genes at once.
Procedure:
We added the genes to a slide numbered 1-8 but we only used 6 of them. as the Gene solidified we added the cDNA which had a different color regarding to what type of genetic samples are shown, helping distinguish the difference between cancer diagnosed cells and noncancerous cells.
Results:
Genes 1 and 5 were both cancerous(pink), number 2 was in both cells(purple), number 4 was a clear color, and number 6 was a blueish color.
